Actually, you are talking about two separate things.
You can apply for IPO through your broker where you have your demat account and through Net Banking with ASBA facility.
Some brokers have facility of applying for IPO through the platform offered by the Broker/Demat account provider and some brokers donot have that facility for their clients within the platform. But any Demat account holder can apply easily for IPO through the Net Banking facility.
What happens during booking of IPO ?
When a company enters stock market observing existing norms, shares are divided into lots put on sale for public for the first time. That’s why it is called the primary market where an investor/trader can buy shares directly from the company. The process is called Initial Public Offering. To apply for IPO, PAN & Demat account are required. After the booking period is over, the shares are credited to the Demat account of the eligible investor. Now the client can sell or hold the shares credited to the Demat account provided while booking IPO.
Now, there is a trick, You have to pay charges for selling the credited shares and the charges vary across brokers.
So, it is obvious that it is advisable to look for opening demat account with such a broker who charges very low and at the same time provides good services in terms of trading platform, various investment opportunities and quality customer services.
